Hello and a very warm welcome to everyone connected with Bletchley Rugby Club as our 1st XV travel to face Reading Rugby Club in Counties 1 Southern North action this afternoon - our final fixture of the season.
Today’s match sees us return to a game that was abandoned two weeks ago, now replayed in full. While it was frustrating not to complete the contest on that occasion, the focus now is firmly on putting in a strong performance over the full 80 minutes.
As the final outing of the campaign, there is a clear determination within the squad to finish on a high. After a long and challenging season, the group will be looking to deliver a performance that reflects the effort, resilience and commitment shown throughout the year.
Reading will, as always, provide a tough test on their own patch. They are a well-organised side, and fixtures between the two teams are consistently competitive, so we expect another hard-fought encounter played in the right spirit.
As ever, I would like to thank our travelling supporters making the journey today. Your backing throughout the season, particularly away from home, has been outstanding and is hugely appreciated by everyone involved.
My thanks also go to our coaches, volunteers and everyone working behind the scenes whose continued commitment ensures the squad is prepared and ready week in, week out.
Here’s to a big afternoon of league rugby to close out the season, and I wish both teams the very best of luck.
Come on Bletchley!

As we gather once again for our final senior home game - and now the final game of the season - it feels right to take a moment to reflect on what has been a year of challenge, growth, and real promise across the club.
On the pitch, it’s been a season of contrasting fortunes. Our Men’s 1st XV have shown real grit and determination throughout a tough campaign, and their fight to retain their place in the league goes right down to the wire. They continue to represent the club with pride, and your support this afternoon will make a real difference as they look to finish the season strongly here at The Manor.
In contrast, our Women’s team have delivered an outstanding season, securing a second-place league finish and earning their place in the Alliance Cup Final. Their commitment, quality, and consistency have been a joy to watch, and they’ve set a fantastic standard for what can be achieved at Bletchley.
There’s also exciting progress coming through our Academy. After a difficult start to the season, the lads recently celebrated their first win - a moment that reflects both their perseverance and the positive impact of new leadership. It’s a timely reminder that development takes time, but the foundations being built are strong and encouraging.
Off the pitch, this year has been just as important. We’ve continued to strengthen our links with local schools, building partnerships that will support the long-term future of the club. At the same time, we’ve made significant progress in securing funding for much-needed pitch improvements, ensuring our facilities can match the ambition we all share for Bletchley Rugby Club.
For me personally, this truly is my final game as Chair ahead of stepping down at the AGM. It has been a privilege to serve the club in this role. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together this year, and even more excited about what lies ahead.
Thank you to everyone - players, coaches, volunteers, sponsors, and supporters - who continue to make this club what it is. After the frustration of last time, it’s fitting that we have this opportunity to come together again. Enjoy the game, and let’s get behind the teams one last time this season here at The Manor.

Club Chair
As we reach the final stage of the season - and gather for both our last home fixture and final game of the campaign - it’s a time for reflection, honesty, and focus.
Across the club, there has been plenty of hard work, commitment, and progress - but also challenges that have tested players, coaches, and the wider rugby family. Now, with everything on the line, the focus shifts firmly to finishing the season with intent, pride, and togetherness.
Today also presents a rare situation - this fixture is a replay of the match from two weeks ago that was unfortunately abandoned. It’s not how anyone would have wanted it, but it gives us one final opportunity to put things right.
Men’s 1st XV
Today, the 1st XV take to the field knowing exactly what is at stake - to keep our chances of survival in this league alive and avoid relegation.
There remains a real possibility that three teams will be relegated this season rather than the usual two, and the margins are incredibly fine. Every point, every moment, and every decision matters.
We won’t shy away from the truth - the table doesn’t lie. Over the course of the season, we haven’t been consistent enough. That’s something we all take responsibility for.
What makes that more frustrating is that, on our day, we’ve shown we can compete with the very best sides in this league. However, inconsistent availability, key injuries, and areas where we as coaches must be better have meant we haven’t delivered often enough.
Today is a huge occasion. There is pressure - no doubt about that - but it’s one we embrace. As the saying goes, pressure makes diamonds.
We’ve had very few home fixtures since Christmas, so this final game at The Manor is a big one. The squad needs your support more than ever - so please get behind the lads and help provide that extra edge to get the job done.
Women’s 1st XV
While being dual roled as the Head of Rugby for the Club, and Head Coach for the Men's Section, this does mean that at times my involvement does tend to lean towards the men’s programme and less with our fantastic women's team, it’s impossible not to recognise the outstanding progress being made by our Women’s 1st XV.
Their recent semi-final performance here in Milton Keynes was exceptional and has deservedly earned them a place in the final next week - a fantastic achievement for the group.
We encourage everyone at the club to get behind this brilliant team. The future is incredibly bright, and there’s a real sense that something special is building.
Keep going, ladies - we’re all behind you.
Academy
The final few weeks of the season have seen a real upturn for the Academy squad, with the last three fixtures yielding two wins and a draw - a fantastic way to finish their campaign.
This group has shown tremendous resilience and commitment throughout the season, and to see that hard work rewarded with results has been brilliant.
These players have faced some incredibly tough challenges, many coming into the game relatively new and competing against more experienced opposition. To see their development, resilience, and commitment rewarded was fantastic.
Huge credit must go to the players, coaches, parents, and everyone who has supported them.
Looking ahead, next season marks a significant milestone. For the first time in many years, we’ll see a strong group transition from the Academy into the senior setup - bringing through homegrown talent that will strengthen the men’s section for years to come.
Across the Club
As a club, we remain committed to growing the game at all levels. Recruitment across our junior section continues to be a key focus, and we encourage everyone to help spread the word within the community.
We’re also proud to be offering local schools free coaching sessions in partnership with Bedford Blues and Northampton Saints - an excellent initiative to introduce more young players to the game.
If you have any contacts in local schools who may be interested, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Whatever happens today, we finish this season together - as one club.
